It turns out the garlic is proven effective against 2 other blood suckers: Mosquitoes and ticks!

Maid time!

What's the best part about summer starting in Kuwait.. or to be exact the month of May? It means we can start having Maid now!

Have you ever asked why can we only eat Maid from May to October? Well I did...it turns out that only when the water is warm, these little fish come up to surface and feed well and get fat with those lovely Omega 3 oils that we love eating. So as it is you hardly get any meat off them, now imagine how thin they would get winter time!

To be honest I tried them the first few days of May, and again last weekend.. Big difference in taste also.. first they got more plump, and they developed that beautiful buttery texture that we all love!

Get them while they last.. only 4 more months of goodness left:)

The boys at the chalet!

Last weekend at the chalet's, I started getting calls from the morning by my cousins asking for breakfast! To my luck, the fuse blew and I had no use of the kitchen.. so I get the boys to take the food to their chalet and cook the eggs and heat up the fatayir..

So this is what I had to say: Boys don't know how to set a table.. Or they love eating with their hands:) No forks or knives or napkins..

But on the other hand, JJ gets bonus points for garnishing the scrambled eggs he made.. notice the eggs in his hand with a tomato and cucumber slice:)

Random Fact of the day!

Did you know that Artificial coloring in food have been linked to increased incidence of ADHD?
Next time you decide to buy a red velvet cake, ask your baker: How much coloring did it take to make this cake so red? Hmmmm
If you love red velvet don't ask! Scary answer!

A night in Mariam Al Sabah's kitchen

Before I start.. let's play the guessing game with a dish Mariam made for us..Can anyone guess what's under here? If you attended the dinner, shhhhhh!

It's time again to visit a great chefs kitchen. Today we have the pleasure of writing about Mariam al Sabah, one of Kuwait's little hidden gems! A chef by training, but only shows of her cooking skills to friends and family!

Sorry dear readers if we get you salivating in this post, unfortunately Mariam's delights are not to be found except in her house!

Let' get started with our adventure in the land of Seafood! Mariam cooked us a feast of seafood brought in fresh from around the world, the best fish Kuwait had to offer.. And the best part of the night was that we were surrounded by the sea!

Enough writing.. and on with the pictures..

Check out how cool our table setting was.. Mariam brought the sea to us! With newspapers covers, bamboo stitched water glass holder, and shells all over, no electricity besides the moonlight and candles. This surly was a table to remember!!

The location we were at was far from a restroom, so our kind host came up with a brilliant idea to keep us clean and seafood stench free. Using a barrel filled with water and liquid soap, we had all that we needed!

Our beautiful lighting around the area!

I think when you have great food, you really only need one great salad filled with greens to blend well with all your dishes.. and off course Mariam being the true chef she is, gave us the perfect salad that mixed well with whatever you ate!

Fresh calamari

I think this was the highlight of the night: Salmon cooked in newspapers.

Now it may looked burnt to you, but that is just the newspaper. Once you cut in to the fish we got the most unbelievably soft buttery cooked salmon I have ever had. I apologize for not taking a before and after picture but I was busy eating! Actually your lucky that I took any pictures...

I'm sure you all know this one: Lobster spaghetti! At one point of the dinner, I actually saw people fighting over the lobster meat! (I don't blame them)!

What a night, what a night what a night! A few people (no names mentioned) had to loosen there pants after the dinner! A perfect dinner, with the greatest of friends, and a new seafood theame dinner, and one of the best chefs we have..

What else could I ask for? Uuuuh..maybe getting invited more often :)

Random fact of the day

Did you know that Popsicles, a all time favorite for kids and adults was actualy invented by a 11 year old kid.
California's Frank Epperson invented the popsicle in 1905!
I wonder if he or his family get any royalties for every popsicle sold?

The birth of the New Italian Burger!

Dear friends,

Today we give you the birth of the Italian Kobe burger.

Who said Italian's only make Pizza's? We Kuwaiti's take all thier ingrediants and turn it in to a Burger.. I think I will copy right this burger! Just to make sure it does not turn in to the new dish of Italy..

Enough of my rambling.. So we get only the freshest Kobe meat available, grind it up, add our lovely mix of Italian herbs to it.. and a few secret ingrediants that just make this burger soooo goood!

Then we toast our buns.. add our spicy mayo, fresh bunch of arugula and grilled portebello Mushrooms and some beautiful carmalized onions!

Then we throw them on a nice hot flame and get all those juices flowing... And just before it's ready, we throw in some fresh Buffalo Mozeralla! And yes, we are extra generouse with the cheese we add.. If it's not oooozing from the burger, then it means you didn't get enough!

Just before serving we drizzel the burgers with some beautiful balsamic glaze just to make it a little bit more Italian.
And that's it folks.. the Italian Kobe Burger. Now don't forget to order it next time you have a BBQ!
